
The iPod 1st Generation has a Scroll Wheel that physically turns around the outer buttons ( play, next, menu & previous).

iPod Nano 1st Generation can be recognized by its small size, rounded corners, flash memory size engraved on back ( 1 GB, 2 GB or 4 GB ) and is either black or white.
iPod Nano 2nd Generation can be
recognized by its small size and squared front facing corners. Its most unique identifiable feature is that the dock connector and headphone port are both located on the bottom of the iPod.

iPod Nano 3rd Generation can be
recognized by its wider screen that previous iPod Nano generations. The hold swithc is located on the bottom of the ipod and the Nano 3rd Generation can play video. The last three numbers of your iPod Nano 3rd Generation will be one of the following: YOP, YOR, YXR, YXT, YXV or YXX.


iPod Nano 4th Generation can be
recognized by its taller screen size and its curved surface (oval shape when viewed from the top or bottom). The iPod Nano 4th Generation came in 8 GB or 16 GB and came in 9 colors as shown.

iPod Nano 5th Generation can be identified by its taller screen the iPod Nano 4th Generation. The iPod 5th Generation has a polished anodized aluminum finish. Easily identified by the camera and microphone on the back of the iPod.

The iPod Classic is a hard drive-based iPod (80 GB, 120 GB and 160 GB) with a large color lcd display and a Click Wheel - available in silver and black and has an anodized aluminum and polished stainless steel enclosure.
The iPod Touch 1st Generation can be deteremined by the unique black antenna cover on the back of your iPod Touch.
The iPod Touch 2nd Generation has an oval antenna cover and has four or more lines of descriptive text where indicated in the above photo.
The iPod Touch 3rd Generation has an oval antenna cover and has two or three lines of descriptive text where indicated in the above photo.
